Commitment

I wrote an extensive blog on covenants ( http://writtenimred.blogspot.com/2015/08/covenants.html ) and we're going to discuss commitment.  In light of the whole AshleyMadison ordeal, I thought this would be a good topic.  People who go on AshleyMadison need a good dose of commitment help, or just help in general.  Why would you get caught in an affair when you're committed to someone else?  Because you don't "love" them anymore?  You've fallen out of love?  Big deal!  You can fall back in love!  Love isn't a feeling, it's an action.  If you treat it like a feeling, you're never going to be happy with anyone because you're always going to be falling in and out of love.  You love someone despite whether you feel like you're still "in love" with them.  You don't have to have the butterflies in your stomach all the time.  You don't have to have the constant euphoria.  While those can be nice, it's not normal.  Eventually they pass and sometimes they come back but then they pass again.  What matters is you stay with that person even through the times you don't have those feelings.  Commitment.

Wives, submit yourselves to your own husbands, as it is fit in the Lord.  Husbands, love your wives, and be not bitter against them.
- Colossians 3:18-19

Ladies, we are to honor our husbands, as if we are honoring God.  We are to treat them with respect. But you husbands, you are to love your wives as Christ loves the church (Ephesians 5:25) and without bitterness.  This is not an easy thing to do and if you don't think you can do it, you should've thought about that before getting married in the first place.  Ask God to help you and He will because He honors marriage.  Just like there is a triune God marriage is triune.  Husband, Wife, and God.  You can't have one without the other, it just doesn't work.  People say there are equal amount of divorces for Christians as non-believers but this is actually not true.  For committed Christians there are actually less divorces than non-believers ( http://www.shaunti.com/book/good-news-marriage/ ).  Let's keep our commitment as if we're committed to Christ Himself!
